Always along the Main: On this cycle route, which is around 550 kilometers long in total, you will experience a kind of best of the destination FrankfurtRhineMain.
The route starts at one of the two sources near the Bavarian towns of Bischofsgrün or Creußen. And from there, depending on the route, 537.7 kilometers (from Bischofsgrün) or 557 kilometers (from Creußen) along the Main to the destination FrankfurtRhineMain. This begins in the Bavarian town of Aschaffenburg with lots of art and culture – highlights of the town are the Abbey Basilica and the Abbey Museum, the imposing Johannisburg Castle and the two more recent art museums, which are dedicated to artists of the 20th century, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Christian Schad. The route continues via Seligenstadt with its half-timbered old town and baroque monastery, the Brothers Grimm town of Hanau and multi-cultural Offenbach to Frankfurt. From there, the Main Cycle Path takes you past Frankfurt-Höchst and the Schwanheimer Düne, a rare inland dune, to Rüsselsheim: there, we particularly recommend a stop at the Opel villas on the banks of the Main, which put together exciting exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. And if you work up a sweat on the way: the outdoor pool in Mainz-Kostheim awaits you right at the mouth of the Rhine, the end of the cycle path.
