Cafe Or Coffee Shop

The Frankfurter Salon defines itself as a coffee house, public kitchen and stage all in one – and as a social enterprise that offers people with disabilities an opportunity.

Fortunately, anyone who thinks of a stilted audience dining at white-clothed tables when they hear the word "salon" is completely wrong about this cozy café. Instead, the plush armchairs, bookshelves, old-fashioned floor lamps and oil paintings make guests feel more like they are in grandma's parlor. And just like at (grand)mom's, delicious homemade cakes are served with good coffee, tasty quiche or warm soup made from fresh, regional ingredients.
The Frankfurt salon was named after a historical model, which is commemorated by a large painting above the red leather couch. It shows Clotilde Koch, who ran a democratic salon in Frankfurt in the mid-19th century to promote encounters and exchanges between liberal, free-thinking people.
Fostering and coming together is something that today's operators, the Frankfurter Verein für soziale Heimstätten, have also taken up the cause of. The social enterprise, which trains and employs people with disabilities or in social need, sees itself as a "coffee house, public kitchen and stage" for everyone.
Its stage program, which includes chamber music, readings, talks and chanson evenings, is deliberately designed to appeal to people who have not yet had access to Frankfurt's cultural diversity. This is also reminiscent of grandma: everyone is welcome.
