Choir Music
Traditionally on 1 Advent the Kurt Thomas Chamber Choir performs an important oratorio or a large instrumental choral work. 2024 the MASS in B-MOLL, BWV 232, by the grand master Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).
Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor is considered one of the most powerful works in music history. It is Bach's only setting of the complete Ordinarium Missae with the five fixed parts of the early church liturgy and at the same time the "opus ultimus", the last of his vocal works. This great mass reveals itself as a summary of Johann Sebastian Bach's vocal artistry, in which the differentiated variety of the liturgical sections is masterfully traced at the highest compositional level and with all the means of virtuoso music-making. With the Mass in B minor, Bach summarises the compositional and spiritual substance of his music as a legacy for posterity. With this setting of the Latin liturgy, one of the most popular and powerful works of sacred music in the Christian West to this day will be performed on 1 Advent and will certainly continue to captivate and inspire music-loving audiences in the future.
