Concert
Star tenor Matthew Polenzani last returned to Frankfurt in 2023 with an acclaimed open-air concert on the Römerberg. He is undoubtedly one of the most important lyric tenors of his generation, whose stellar international career has been closely linked to Oper Frankfurt since 2008. As a "loyal" guest, Matthew Polenzani has appeared here in roles such as Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) and in the title role of Berlioz's La damnation de Faust. In 2008, he won the Beverly Sills Artist Award from the Metropolitan Opera New York, where he has been a regular guest since then. Highlights of recent seasons there have included the tenor roles in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux as well as Tamino (The Magic Flute), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Giasone (Médée) and the title role in Verdi's Don Carlo. He is currently appearing as Massenet's Werther at the Vienna State Opera.
Now Matthew Polenzani introduces himself to Frankfurt audiences as a sensitive Lied interpreter. He will be accompanied on the piano by Julius Drake, who has often been a guest at the Frankfurt Opera. Both will present songs by Franz Schubert, Gerald Finzi, Robert Schumann and Charles Ives
