One could call the Museum Society's chamber concerts a showcase of the world's best string quartets. Our audiences are particularly delighted that several Frankfurt ensembles have been among these top talents for a number of years. These include the Schumann Quartet, which is now at home on the world's great concert stages. The three brothers Mark, Erik and Ken Schumann have been playing together since their earliest childhood. There was no fourth brother to play the viola, so Veit Hertenstein completes the quartet.
The Schumann Quartet returns to the Museum Society's chamber concerts with a programme that combines the classical with the unfamiliar. The Schumanns will be performing classics such as the C major quartet from Joseph Haydn's "Tost Quartets" and the second Rasumowsky Quartet by Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as the second string quartet by Leó Weiner. The Hungarian-born composer, at times praised as the "Hungarian Mendelssohn", drew on German classical and romantic music, but also incorporated elements of Hungarian folk music, creating his own, sometimes fiery to clownish style.
