The cider has been flowing here for generations: The rustic pub combines tradition, coziness and hearty German cuisine
Are you in Frankfurt for the first time? Or do you have guests from out of town who want to enjoy a traditional Hessian meal? Then this inn in Bornheim is your perfect destination. Here, on the upper Berger Straße, you will find one of the most traditional apple wine taverns in the city, which has been welcoming guests since the 16th century. Owned by the Solzer family since 1893, the inn is now in its fifth generation and serves home-made Ebbelwei and home-style dishes such as schnitzel and fried potatoes, oven-fresh pork knuckle, homemade Tafelspitz broth and, of course, Handkäs. The cider comes, as it should, from the Bembel, the stoneware jug, into the ribbed glasses.
You can sit in the rustic dining room or outside in the garden on beer benches – and probably clink glasses with someone you're just getting to know: the Apfelweinwirtschaft is actually always so well attended that people tend to gather here.
