Apfelwein Struwwelpeter

PDF

Apple Wine Tavern
Regional Kitchen, German
This quaint restaurant in Sachsenhausen is adorned with Frankfurt's famous children's book classic.

Local colour at its best: a sign on the façade shows Struwwelpeter, inside his portrait adorns the dining room and, of course, the characters from the famous children's book are also present on the menu. The menu advertises classic starters that are "not for soupheads", "Struwwi's tarte flambée" and "Frankforder Grie Soß mit viel Struwwelpetersilie", which is served with boiled potatoes and eggs.
Luckily, these allusions are the only ones and there is no sign of the creepy tone of the children's book stories. On the contrary: in the dining room and on the terrace, guests like to sit closer together and clink glasses of schnapps. Incidentally, it is called – how could it be otherwise – Struwwelgeist.
