Museum for children and families
The Young Museum develops and presents interactive exhibitions especially for families with children age 6 and up.

The Young Museum is part of the Historic Museum Frankfurt and develops and presents exhibitions especially for children and youths on topics of local historical and cultural relevance. It offers not only direct access to authentic historical objects, but also a hands-on oriented learning experience. In all its exhibits the visitors are encouraged to play an active role. Touching, testing, trying out: independent thinking and an autonomous learning environment are central to the Young Museum.

The workshops are ideal for everyone interested in experimenting, creating and crafting. Under the supervision of our trained staff participants learn the basic principles and development of a particular handicraft through intensive individual activity. The opportunities range from paper-making and experiments in painting to typography and artistic printing techniques, as well as experimental radio and audio workshops.

Historical playing areas, such as the Old General Store and Great-Grandparents’ Kitchen, invite young people to role-play and explore the world of exotic goods as well as historic kitchen utensils and recipes. Our newly acquired furnishings from an original 19th century drugstore contain samples of medicinal herbs and plants, which are kept in vintage porcelain apothecary jars.
