The big wide world between 150 market stalls: A great place to shop, savour and enjoy a glass of wine in the gallery.

In this market hall, Frankfurt is at least as much a cosmopolitan city as it is in the skyscrapers of the banking district. A place could hardly be more colourful and international: from antipasti to grouper, traders offer a wide variety of specialities at around 150 stalls, from the gardens of the Rhine-Main region to Asia and South America. The atmosphere is often neighbourly, with many regular customers having known their vendors for years.
At the same time, the Kleinmarkthalle is a Frankfurt institution despite its cosmopolitan flair. It went into operation at the end of the 19th century, when it was a neo-Renaissance building that fell victim to wartime bombs in 1944. Reconstruction began ten years later and for many Frankfurters today, the clinker brick building is not just a place to shop, but above all a place to talk, eat and drink. A popular meeting place for this is upstairs in the gallery.
