The small island on the banks of the River Main in Niederrad was created at the end of the 19th century through the construction of locks and served as a river swimming pool from 1900 until the 1950s. When the water quality of the Main increasingly deteriorated, swimming was banned and the swimming pool became the Licht- und Luftbad, a popular excursion destination for Frankfurters.
There is enough space on the lawn to meet up with friends for a picnic or simply read a book in peace. Children can let off steam in the playground and the barbecue area smells temptingly of sausages. If you don't want to cook your own barbecue, you can enjoy refreshments at the Ponton LiLu, an architecturally unique café that can be raised on pontoons at high tide.
