Relaxing in green surroundings right on the Museumsufer? This is exactly what US star architect Richard Meyer designed the Metzlerpark at the Museum Angewandte Kunst.
Star architect Richard Meyer, according to whose designs the Museum of Applied Arts was built in the 1980s as a linear white building surrounded by greenery, also planned the park in front of the museum's doors. Luckily, a wonderful place to relax has been created – with old, rare trees and Meyer's generously designed fountain in the center. As part of the museum embankment, it connects the paths between the Museum der Weltkulturen, the Main and the Museum Angewandte Kunst with the historic Villa Metzler and the stylish and cozy Emma Metzler café and restaurant, where you can enjoy modern, sophisticated cuisine and delicious cakes and tarts during the day.
It's no wonder that the Metzler name runs through the ensemble: as patrons of a wide variety of cultural and social projects in Frankfurt, the banking family has earned a number of honors over the past centuries. Georg Friedrich Metzler acquired the villa in 1851 and also used the park for concerts and theater performances. He would probably have liked the fact that the park is often used for colorful celebrations today, such as the El Barrio music and culture festival.
