Special Museum
The elegant Holzmann Villa is not only an exciting art venue, but also a door opener to research and teaching.

It is one of the small, fine jewels of the Museumsufer: the Giersch Museum in the neoclassical Holzmann Villa directly on the Main. It has been part of Frankfurt's Goethe University since 2015 and likes to call itself the "window to the university". If museum director Ina Neddermeyer, who joined the building in 2024, has her way, the "window" will become the "door to the university": Art, science, research and teaching will come together here and work even more closely together. The building has two charms for visitors: on the one hand, the exhibitions are dedicated to lesser-known artists from the Rhine-Main region, whose work is well explained thanks to the collaboration with the university. Secondly, the three-storey villa offers an extraordinary ambience: The building contractor Wilhelm Holzmann built the house for his family in 1910, and elements from this period have been preserved to this day, especially on the lower floors, creating an almost private atmosphere. Incidentally, the museum owes its name to the foundation set up by patron of the arts Carlo Giersch in 2000.
