Cafe Or Coffee Shop
Regional Kitchen

A Dutch merchant and confectioner once lived in the original of this house. The replica is a masterpiece with a museum and café.

This house played a special role among the buildings in the New Old Town. Enormous efforts were made to reconstruct the Goldene Waage, once the home of Dutch merchant and confectioner Abraham van Hamel, with the utmost precision and attention to detail. Architect Jochem Jourdans researched at home and abroad in order to design the half-timbered building in the original colours; specialists from all over the country were brought in for the stucco ceilings and decorations. The rooms on the two upper floors are furnished true to the original as they were in the days of van Hamel, who moved into the house in 1618 .
You can only visit this part of the Golden Scales with a guided tour of the Historical Museum, a literal highlight of this tour is the Belvederchen, a green roof garden with a wonderful view of the cathedral and the city. Down on the ground floor  a coffee house on the ground floor welcomes Frankurters* and their guests. Confectioner van Hamel would probably have liked that
