You're in the mood for art, but a visit to a museum is just too much for you? Then we recommend a stroll through Fahrgasse - Frankfurt's gallery quarter.
"Frankfurt is a city of art," says gallery owner Kirsten Leuenroth, who has her gallery in Fahrgasse on the edge of the New Old Town. And by that she doesn't just mean the city's major museums and exhibition venues, but also what she and eight other gallery owners are putting on here in Fahrgasse: Seven times a year, they organize the simultaneous opening of their exhibitions on a Friday evening - only works by contemporary artists can be seen in the galleries. There is also music or wine stands and a free guided tour of the galleries on the following Saturday. The galleries, which have joined forces to form the "Galerien Frankfurt Mitte" initiative, also regularly offer Open Sundays. "We want to take away people's fear of entering", explains gallery owner Kirsten Leuenroth. "We want art to be approachable." This is also achieved through the pleasant surroundings in Fahrgasse: cafés, an ice cream parlor and various bars have now settled in this art mile.
